Privacy Policy

Last updated 1 October 2026
The short version: Your photos and their metadata never leave your device. There are no accounts and no ads, and we never sell or share data. The App sends anonymous usage counts — which features get used, never what is in your photos — and you can switch that off in Settings.

Who we are

Tagsmith (the “App”) is an on-device photo & video metadata tool for iPhone: it shows the hidden EXIF, GPS and IPTC data in your photos, and can remove or edit that data in clean copies. This policy explains how the App handles your information. It is short on purpose, because Tagsmith is built so that your photos and their metadata never leave your device.

Information we collect

We never receive your photos or their metadata. Everything the App reads — camera details, capture dates, GPS coordinates, captions — is processed entirely on your iPhone. There are no user accounts, so we never receive your name, email address or contacts.

The only information that leaves the App for us is the anonymous usage data described under “Analytics” below.

Photo library access

With your permission, Tagsmith reads photos you choose in order to display their metadata, and saves cleaned or edited copies back to your library. Your originals are never modified. You can grant full or limited access, and change it at any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos. The App works with limited access too — it reads only the items you pick.

Location data

Tagsmith displays the GPS coordinates already stored inside your photos, and can remove them or (if you choose) add a location by dropping a pin on a map. To show a place name for coordinates, and to search for a place when you add a location, the App uses Apple Maps services (CLGeocoder and MapKit). These send only the coordinates or the words you search for to Apple — never your photos — and are covered by Apple's privacy policy. Map tiles are also loaded from Apple. Tagsmith never asks for or tracks your own device location.

Analytics

To learn which features are used and where people get stuck, the App sends anonymous usage signals to TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service based in the EU. A signal says that something happened — for example “a photo was cleaned”, “the paywall was shown”, or “a batch of 11–25 photos was saved”, or “the opened photo has a location: yes” (only yes or no, never the location itself) — together with your app version, iOS version, device model, language, whether you own Tagsmith Pro, and your photo-access level (full, limited or none).

Signals never contain a photo, a file name, a metadata value, a location or coordinate, a caption, or anything you type. Each install is identified only by a salted, one-way hash, so the data is not linked to you and cannot be used to identify you. We do not use it to track you across apps or websites, and we do not sell or share it. You can turn it off at any time in Tagsmith › Settings › Privacy › Share anonymous usage data; the share-sheet extension follows the same setting.

Advertising & tracking

None. Tagsmith shows no ads, does not track you, and contains no advertising or crash-reporting SDKs. The only network requests the App makes are the Apple Maps lookups described above, the App Store purchase requests below, and the anonymous usage signals described under “Analytics”. It has no code that sends your photos or their metadata anywhere.

Purchases

Tagsmith Pro is a one-time purchase. Payments and restore-purchase requests are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment details.

How your data leaves the device

Only when you deliberately export or share a file — for example, sharing a cleaned copy of a photo. Those files go only where you choose to send them. If your photo library uses iCloud Photos, fetching your own originals onto your device is performed by Apple's PhotoKit under your iCloud settings.

Your control & data deletion

Tagsmith stores your app preferences on your device (for example, your default export choice) and a small search index of camera names if you use metadata search. It keeps no copy of your photos. Deleting the App removes everything the App stored on your device. Usage signals are anonymous and cannot be traced back to you, so they cannot be retrieved or deleted per person; switching analytics off stops any further signals. Copies the App saved to your photo library are ordinary photos in your library, under your control.

Children's privacy

Tagsmith is a general-audience utility and is not directed to children. As described above, we do not collect personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, note the change in the App.
